BJP activist KK Rajan (52) of Koonthaloor, Manakkadavu in Kerala’s Kannur district, who was injured in stone-pelting by CPI(M) workers on December 1 last, died on Saturday morning at a private hospital in Mangalore. Rajan was injured critically in the stone-pelting by CPI(M) activists at Oduvallithattu in Kannur district while he was returning with other BJP workers from Payyannur after participating in the Janasakthi rally organised on the martyrdom day of State Yuva Morcha vice-president KT Jayakrishnan, who was hacked to death by a Marxist killer gang in a classroom in 1999.

Rajan, a member of the Irikkur constituency committee of the BJP and an active party worker since 2008, had suffered fractures in the skull in the stone-pelting and had undergone several operations since then. He had been in coma ever since he was injured in the attack. Two other BJP workers from Koothuparambu, Kannur had also been injured in the Marxist attack. The Thalipparamba police in Kannur had arrested eight CPM workers in the case in which there were a total of 15 accused. Sources in the police said they could slap the charge of murder on the accused in the context of the injured BJP worker’s death.
