Chief Justice of India TS Thakur said on Saturday that both the Bench and Bar should strive for clearing the pendency of cases in the courts. The CJI said it’s the duty of both to work hard and ensure justice to the people. Emphasising that lawyers should be committed to their efforts for ensuring affordable and speedy justice, the CJI harped on the need of better co-ordination between the two institutions for redressing peoples’ problems.
Justice Thakur was addressing a congregation after inaugurating the new building of the lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court in Gomtinagar, lucknow.
“The Allahabad High Court is celebrating the sesquicentennial year of its establishment. At the end of the year, you should look as to how many cases were decided. The lawyers of both the parties should request the bench that their case be listed for early hearing,’’ said the CJI.
“I appeal to the Bar that if they agree then during the summer vacation, I will ask the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court to hear cases in which both sides of lawyers agree to expedite their cases,” he suggested.
Terming the new building a beautiful gift from the government to the judicial system, Justice Thakur said, “The building has been constructed at a huge cost of `1,300 crore which is the tax payers money. Now it’s the duty of the Bench and the Bar to work efficiently to ensure justice to the people.’’
