The starcast of Bhajhate Raho was recently in Delhi to shoot for a wedding scene. Shibaji Roychoudhury gets you all the talk around the film and the stars
The venue: A much decorated farmhouse in Chattarpur.
The stage: All set with two large screens on either side, flickering lights and blaring music (Nagin Dance Nuchna was the background score)
The occasion: Shooting a wedding scene from Shashant Shah’s revenge comedy Bhajhate Raho
Actors Vinay Pathak and Ranbir Shorey make their appearance wearing tracks and T-shirts, shaking a leg to the item number and announcing that they are in town to shoot for a shaadi. Bas, the rest was one evening of masti and fun unlimited.
So, why was the wedding scene being shot in DelhiIJ “A large part of the film is based and shot in Delhi. Moreover, the Capital is the best venue when it comes to weddings,” director, Shashant Singh tells you. Filmstars Vinay Pathak and Ranbir Shorey, Tussar Kapoor, Ravi Kishen, Dolly Alluwalia and Kamlesh Gill (Vicky Donor fame).
We have heard of romantic comedies, adventure comedies and even action comedies, but a revenge comedy sounds fresh yet bizzare. And it takes a Vinay Pathak to clear the air around his film and his hatke role this time. “As for the title of the film it’s quite self-explanatory. It can be categorised as a sub-genre of a comic thriller. My role is the interesting part — I play Mintu Hassan who is a bhai, (as in Gangster!) and I am the only character who is not portrayed in a comic light. However, I am sure the audience will burst out laughing when they see me on screen., They are all so used to me being a comedian,” Pathak tells you, trying very desperately to make the audience giggle.
He feels it is time for him to experiment with other genres as well. “Frankly, I think people are sick of watching me as a joker and I agree with them completely,” he tells you.
This will be the eighth film in which Pathak and Ranbir Shorey will be seen together. “We try not to be seen together but it never works. We have been pals right from our theatre days,” Shorey tells you and as a true friend, Pathak also quips “when we work together, we tell our story with so much diligence that people like us together. And haven’t you noticed, comics are always in pairs.”
While most actors in the country are under immense pressure since the 100 crore club tamasha, both Shorey and Pathak seem unbothered. “Hamari shakal dekhke lagta hain ki humari film 100 crore ka business karegiIJ Humne aisa socha bhi toh pant gili ho jayegi. Although, I wake up everyday and pray to God — aaj Bhagwaan aaj, 100 crore ke darshan karado please,” Shorey says as the duo cracks up.
Remind him about his film Ek Thha Tiger and how that managed to break all records in BO and Shorey wants friendly advise from none other than Pathak — “Where were you when I needed youIJ” To which Pathak replied, “Usmein Salmantha nah comedy karne ke liye, what would you need me forIJ”
Both actors have been a part of films of big and small production houses. According to Pathak the difference work on either side is the food that he gets to eat. “Here, they feed us like cats and dogs but in big production houses have shahi lunch and dinner,” Pathak tells you.
While small-budget films are turning out to be box-office hits, Pathak feels that there is a lot of crap being made in the name of parallel cinema. “I am glad that it is doing well. But the amount of bad films in the name of art has also increased. I guess this kind of corruption will be there in any form,” he concludes.
