An employee of Delhi University’s Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma College has filed a complaint of sexual harassment against the principal and alleged that she was being harassed at workplace.

Based on the victim complaint, a case under Section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC was registered at South Campus police station of South Delhi.

Police said that the complaint was made by the personal assistant (PA) to Principal Sandeep Sharma and a few months back, she has sent written complaints to South Campus police station, Special Commissioner of Police and national and Sate Women’s Commissions.

“After receiving the complaint, we started probing the matter and we have lodged a case.  Prima facie, it appears to a official politics matter but we are questioning all the concerned persons,” a senior police officer said.

In the complaint letter, the victim alleged that there were several instances at work involving sexual overtones. She was routinely asked to stay back late to trace files, and he looked at her “with sexual overtones”. The principal invited Kumar for tea after the day’s work while she waited for her husband. “After I refused, the next day he was behaving annoyingly and irritatingly with me, but I decided to ignore (that) and focus on my duty,” said the victim in her complaint.

She also alleged that she was given a warning letter just for making an unintentional typing error.
