Jyothi Uday, a brave bank officer, who was brutally attacked by an assailant inside an ATM in Bangalore on November 19, has been discharged from a private hospital on Saturday.
The 38-year-old victim was undergoing treatment at a private hospital after being attacked by an unidentified assailant with a machete inside an ATM kiosk. She had suffered grievous brain injuries and her right side was paralysed after a small piece of bone had gone into the brain causing a “penetrating injury”. The assailant had hit her on the head and decamped with Rs 2,500 and her mobile. The accused continues to be at large and police have declared a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to arrest of the suspect.
There was no security guard at the ATM booth that Jothi visited at around 7 am on November 19. After her attacker left her bleeding, she was undiscovered for three hours inside the ATM located on one of Bangalore’s busiest roads. Finally, some schoolboys noticed blood trickling onto the road and informed the traffic police.
She said, “I was shocked to see an intruder inside the ATM when I was withdrawing cash. He told me not to scream. He threatened me. But I told him I was withdrawing money for my daughter’s fees. Within a minute he caught me by my neck and hit me hard with the machete several times and then I fell unconscious. He left the ATM and I was there bleeding for three hours.”
“I did not succumb since I was bold and thought the pistol was a duplicate one. The man then removed sickle from his bag and took me to corner and hit on my neck and I fell unconscious.” “When I regained consciousness, I could not move my right hand and somehow I reached the closed shutter and shouted for help when somebody opened the shutter and shifted me to hospital. Justice should prevail and nobody should suffer like me,” she added.
