Picking up threads from the previous issue, let us now have a look at what forms the basis of one’s individual specific perception of an issue in hand. How is it that given a similar situation, different people have varying takes and then respond or react their exclusive waysIJ
Well, the way individual mind, the prime-mover of a being, is inherently framed, and which differs from person-to-person, holds the key to our varying perceptions. It is pertinent to note here that mind is just an instrument, which will move the way it gets directed. In its own right it just reflects what lies in its front. like an animal, mind could also react and respond instinctively when its most profound empowerment tool —Buddhi, the faculty of discriminate intelligence — takes a back seat. And for want of due diligence, which is the prerogative of Buddhi, we become vulnerable to pick up inappropriate leads, and with obvious consequences. That’s, however, not the way a human being is expected to conduct. They are supposed to conduct responsibly in a reasoned way.
The paradox, however, is that mind though well equipped to conduct rightfully, it often fails in its mission because of its own fault lines. It is pertinent to note here that being an instrument, mind’s empowerment tool, Buddhi can’t come into play unless consciously invoked. Second, Buddhi would need a guiding principle to evaluate things in hand. The irony is that often mind gets trapped by illusionary thought-seeds in store. Caught up in the bind, it loses its sense of alert needed to invoke Buddhi, whence mind fails to perceive things in the right perspective, and with obvious consequences.
The question now is: What’s the source of instore illusionary thought-seedsIJ It is worth noting hear that human mind is driven by a sense of duality. In turn, that brings into play choice option. Evidently, if there is a choice in hand, the probability of its use and misuse remains equal and it comes with a cost. You are to take the responsibility for the choices made, and therefore, become liable to bear with the consequences thereof. This traps a being into a continued cause-effect chain running in auto-pilot mode, which stretches on to even next successive life. In this scheme of things, happenings any moment is actually culmination of doings in the past, and what comes out this moment sets the premise on which future takes off.
Remember, all through the run of life, we go through varied experiences, both good and bad. Accordingly, we develop habit tendencies. Coming as it may with lessons learnt and skills acquired, we acquire virtues and attributes. We chase aspirational urges, many of them remaining unfulfilled during life time. The sum total of all such imprints acquired till the time of one’s birth get carried on to the next life in succession as thought-seeds. One, thus, begins life with these thought-seeds in store, and which programmes each mind perceive things one’s exclusive ways. These thought-seeds involuntarily define individual specific beliefs, which drives our thought process and thereby all actions on our part. Evidently, the character and content of the thought-seeds hold the key to fruits of all actions on our part, with related bearing by way of fulfilling or frustrating experiences in the emerging times. Not that these thought-seeds would be indicative of specific event in offing. It’s the feel of an experience — what you have given to others will come back to you. It implies that given a situation, one may react and respond in a way that may lead to similar experiences.
To sum up, the cause of stress is rooted in thought seeds in store of the inner realm of mind. That makes it incumbent upon us to watch out our thought trends and make necessary corrective initiatives. But it is easier said than done, as habits die hard. Spirituality has answer to this human limitation. The process involved is meditation, which calls for turning mind inwards. In the process, first one has exposure to memory imprints stored in sub-conscious memory. Through continued self-reflection, the negative and inconsequential inputs could be identified and driven away from our consciousness. Further down the line, one becomes aware of immense powers of mind, mostly lying dormant, because of our own ignorance. Also, one becomes aware of how to effectively drive the constituents of mind as mandated. Mind is then provided with fresh educative inputs to provide it the right lead. One thus gets equipped to keep stress away.
