Human beings are supposedly the most empowered creatures of the universe. For, unlike other existences that are bound by predefined limits respectively ascribed to them, human beings can guide their actions by choice and discrimination. Exercising this privilege, one could chart out and follow self-designated path as well. On top of that is the fertile mind, which armed with its inlaid evolutionary potential, could explore beyond the known, expand one’s reach, improve one’s skillsets, and strike even unchartered territories. It is on this strength that human civilisation has grown thus far out of its primitive stage.
The paradox, however, is that human beings happen to be the most troubled lot also. WhyIJ The answer too very much lies in a being’s empowerment tool — the mind — itself, which happens to be a double-edged weapon. Bear in mind; human minds are driven by a sense of duality, which holds the key to the choice option available. And whenever there is a choice, it carries equal probability of use and misuse. If rightly applied, it could add quality and value to life. But if it anyway gets misdirected, it could prove a great spoiler as well.
To overcome the above vulnerability, human beings are armed with buddhi — the faculty of discriminate intelligence. It enjoins upon a being the prerogative to dispassionately analyse the issues in hand, arrive at the right judgment, and accordingly pick up the most appropriate lead. This faculty, however, doesn’t come into play by default. It needs to be consciously invoked and put to use. Certainly, if this faculty gets ignored, one becomes vulnerable to get into unintelligent acts, and with obvious consequences. The question now is: Why would anybody consciously ignore their own empowerment toolIJ To find the answer, a look into the construct and chemistry of mind, the prime mover of a being, becomes imperative.
Remember, mind is an instrument, which doesn’t move on its own. It needs feed from within or beyond. It may be pertinent to note here that we all begin life with a bag full of thought feeds carried over from the past, and which sets the premise on which mind takes off. Picking up threads from these thought feeds, the mind involuntarily builds its self-belief mechanism, which accounts for all desire trends and habit tendencies. The desires aroused, excite in turn, corresponding thoughts, which when gravitate, translate into action. Evidently, the character and content of the desires nursed and nurtured, read together with habit tendencies and which account for the quality of our efforts, set the terms of the fruits of our action, qualitatively and otherwise. In a way, it may not be unfair to surmise that we all begin life with a preconditioned mind. The question now is: Are we bound to these limitationsIJ
Certainly not. Provided ahamkara, the particular component of mind, which brings in the sense of ‘I’, invokes buddhi for due diligence, to filter off the undesirables and make most appropriate choices. The irony, however, is that often ahamkara identifies itself with the inherent tendencies of mind, and then passionately pursues them blindfolded, as if that would be its end game. Also, it comes under the spell of tempting influences of the glare and glitters of the seeming world, and makes it its dream destination. In both events, ahamkara doesn’t care to invoke buddhi, thus making one vulnerable to unmindfully make wrong choices. This is exactly what has been limiting someone who came in search of reasons underlying his long drawn stress. let us look at his astrological markers. He is born with Virgo lagna, its lord Mercury though occupying its own lunar constellation, but debilitated in navamsha. This brings in the sense of being always right. He feels his worth is not being appreciated by others. Also, it brings in a perfectionist streak, and that too by his self-defined parameters. If those around do not prove true to his expectations, he becomes overcritical and doesn’t hesitate in passing caustic remarks, evidently earning their displeasure.
The lagna lord, the Sun and Moon, all occupying fixed signs make him a stubborn guy not easily amenable to change. The Sun opposite Mars, both placed adverse to Moon, makes him temperamental, moody, irritable, and argumentative. Moon placed adverse to Saturn speaks of his closed mind and habitually suspicious nature. So, he is neither at peace with his own self nor the rest. He won’t share his feelings with others nor seek guidance. So, trapped in his own thought-world, he remains under stress.
