The ongoing pandemic forced the whole world to stay indoors. All outdoor activities came to a grinding halt. Accordingly, we had to adjust. Not everybody could take this sudden change kindly. A lot many people developed stress, even more those who lost their job, kith & kin. Looking around one wondered: how is it that may could cope up with this sudden change, while a good number of people came under acute stress? The sad part is that the stress has a carryover effect on those around, the worst being on children, who have no clue why it is happening.
Here, a look into individual mindset becomes imperative. Those who understand the realities of life better, and know that the world is always in a state of flux, often confronting us with surprises, could easily adjust to the change. But those bound by their habits, attitudes and perceptions, were not able to bear with the adverse environmental condition. They came under acute stress. Under such a mental condition one loses the sense of reasons and direction, and evidently to one’s detriment.
The other day, a couple came seeking advice on why their only child is not performing well. A look at the child’s chart revealed that he was quite intelligent, had a good communicative skill, and a good reading habit. For, Mercury, the related signifying planet was over his head when born. So, he should have ordinarily performed well. The obvious implication is that there had to be some external influence that would be adversely affecting the child’s mindset.
The problem with him, however, was that he was oversensitive, coming as it may as Venus, the emotionally oriented planet was conjunct Ketu and also placed adverse to Saturn. He would get overexercised even on trivial issues, which he would stretch beyond due within himself. That badly disturbed his focus. Also, he was vulnerable to come under severe mental complex as would Mars placed adverse to mischievous Neptune imply. So, I needed to figure out the domestic environment for an answer to his problem.
I then engaged the child in a discussion. Following which, it came out that the domestic environment was stressful. It was difficult for him to digest his mother’s frequent mood swings who keeps throwing tantrums every now and then. He would wonder, what wrong is being done to his mother that has affected her so badly. That made a look at his mother’s chart imperative.
The lady was born with Aquarius lagna. Its sign and sub-lord Saturn is in debilitation. Saturn occupies the constellation owned by headless Ketu, which is conjunct mind signifying Moon in Virgo sign. This, in the first place implies that the lady has a nagging attitude. Second, she suffers from ‘I am the only right person syndrome’, as if all others were not intelligent enough to appreciate her viewpoint. Third, she would expect perfect behaviour from those around, and that too, measured by her self-defined beliefs and perceptions. She doesn’t realise that nobody could be ever perfect, not even she herself. It is difficult for her to digest anything said or done to the contrary. She then begins finding faults with the others and doesn’t hesitate passing caustic remarks, which offends others.
But she doesn’t stop there. She rather takes things to extremes when enraged, as would Mars placed adverse to Saturn mean. Mars conjunct Mercury makes her restless and overcritical of others. Mercury posited adverse to Saturn gives her a fixated one track mind. If that would not be enough, Saturn is in the sub of Venus posited in an emotive sign Cancer, which makes here touchy and oversensitive. She may get irked even on trivial issues, which will continue playing in mind for long. The result is there to see.
What the lady doesn’t understand that the world won’t move necessarily to her asking. All beings born into this world are unique, each reflecting varying mind-traits. Yet, we have to find a balance, overriding each other’s few limitations.
No wonder, Buddha said: “There is no scope for a perfect situation in life. We have to find a middle path.” It was not a metaphysical statement. It relates to our day-to-day life in this living world. The lady needs to realise that for the sake of healthy growth of her child, she needs to change herself, sooner than later.
