Worried parents of an unmarried girl in her early thirties came asking the other day: “Our daughter is not allowing us to look for a suitable match for her. Is her marriage promised. If so, by when? Kindly suggest some puja to expedite her marriage.”

Going by astrological indicators, the girl’s marriage seems promised, but late. Indications of a delayed marriage in any horoscope are always purposeful. It provides an opportunity to work upon one’s interpersonal relationship skills and become mature enough to negotiate with the subtleties of marriage with ease. Marriage is union of two people, born unique, each carrying individual specific mind-trends. Overriding each other’s limitations, the two need to be accommodative with each other. It is only going through the lessons of life, that one gains maturity, and that comes with time. Given the girl’s temperament, an early marriage would have been problematic, if not turbulent.

“Sir, by societal perception, her marriage is already over delayed. We are feeling pressured by the society — our relatives and well-wishers. Would a puja or wearing a stone help expedite it?”

The problem, in this case, is in her approach to life, which is rooted in her mind. And there is no puja that can intrude her mind space to change here thought process. Also, given the girl’s temperament, she may not agree to wear the stone prescribed in the first place.

In my view, the girl only can address her own mental infirmities. Also, there is a possibility that she may have someone in her mind, and the two may be taking time before they finally decide to settle down. So, it is better have patience. You are not answerable to anybody. Better look for a happy and stable marriage for your daughter, even if it takes a little longer, rather than force her wed. She does not, anyway, seem to be the type to come under pressure.

“Sir, I have some understanding of astrology, will you please explain the basis of your analysis,” asked the girl’s mother?

Marriage means addition to the family, which is seen from the 2nd house. 2nd house and sub-lord is Mars, which is also the 7th lord identified with marriage. Mars occupies the 6th house, the one detrimental to 7th house matters. Mars occupies the constellation owned by Saturn, a natural delaying planet. But, Saturn occupies the 3rd house and owns the 5th house. So, addition to family is not denied, but is certainly delayed.

Marriage also involves agreement between two people to live together as partners, which is seen from the 7th house. 7th sub-lord is Venus, which is posited in the 7th house itself and in its own constellation. So, marriage appears to be promised. Incidentally, Venus is also the 5th sub-lord, signifying pleasure pursuits. Whenever there is strong connect between the 5th and 7th houses, is indicative of the possibility of a marriage of choice.

Marriage also means fulfilment of desires identified with the 11th house. 11th sub-lord is Moon, which occupies the lagna. Moon is posited in the constellation owned by Jupiter. Jupiter extends its beneficial 5th aspect to Moon. So, fulfilment of desires also seems promised. Moon happens to be career signifying 10th lord. So, she may prefer a professional colleague.

Coming to her habits and attitudes. Moon is placed adverse to Uranus, which gives her a mercurial temperament. Moon is opposite Mercury, which implies that she is indecisive, worries a lot, and would be resentful of others. Mars placed adverse to Uranus makes her temperamental and would be irrational at times.

Mars again placed adverse to Jupiter speaks of an inflated ego, which restricts the scope of vision to her own beliefs and perceptions, and not keen to look beyond for a reality check. She may not digest anything happening to the contrary. Jupiter opposite Neptune and Uranus implies that she carries peculiar beliefs, would be head strong, opinionated and tactless. Mercury placed adverse to Mars and Uranus makes her restless, bad tempered, argumentative, unconventional, eccentric and hypercritical of others.

To, sum up, she needs to work on her attitudes, and become accommodative enough to negotiate the callings of marital life with ease. Better allow her time to get ready for marriage. Hopefully, she may get married sometime next year.
