Reiterating that sealing the Indo-Bangladesh border is the prime objective of the Government, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday said the International Border between the two countries will be sealed in line with Punjab, Rajasthan and Kashmir.
Sonowal said this while addressing a meeting at the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) at lalmati area in Guwahati and added that the Centre as well as the State Government had already taken up steps to seal the international border.
"The people of Assam are aware about the jehadi threat perception. The International Border in Assam will be sealed like it was done in case of Punjab, Rajasthan and Kashmir," he said, adding that the Government is working to seal the 70 kms of riverine International Border between the two countries in Dhubri, Mankachar and in Karimganj District.
The Chief Minister also took up the issue of updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Assam and said that it would help the Government detect and deport illegal infiltrators in the State. Sonowal admitted about the pressure of the illegal Bangladeshi infiltrators in Assam and said that all the genuine citizens will be secured only when the illegal infiltrators are detected and deported.
Meanwhile, the CM told media that he would look into the demands of the members of the House to avail the Z+ security cover.
