Security around the US Consulate in Hyderabad was tightened on Saturday after the Communist Party of India workers took the authorities by surprise and staged a flash demonstration against the visit of President Barack Obama. Party leaders and workers led by K Narayana and Gunda Mallesh held a demonstration at the US Consulate at Begumpet shouting slogans of "Obama go back" and created a ruckus in the area.
Though a handful of policemen were present there as part of the permanent security arrangements, they were outnumbered by the protestors. Additional force led by Assistant Commissioner of Police MG Reddy rushed to the scene and rounded up the protesters. Earlier the workers and supporters of all the left parties including CPI, CPI(M), Forward Bloc, MCPI, CPI (Ml) and others took out a rally in Basheer Bagh area to protest against Obama's visit.
