Anna threatens protest if NDA backtracks

Reminding Prime Minister Narendra Modi of his Government’s failure to keep its promise of bringing back the black money stashed away by Indians in foreign bank within 100 days of coming to power, noted Gandhian Anna Hazare on Sunday threatened to undertake indefinite agitation once again if the Government failed to fulfil its electoral commitment made to the people in the coming days.

Hazare shot off a letter to the Prime Minister, expressing his displeasure over Modi’s failure to fulfil his promise of initiating measures to bring back black money stashed away in banks abroad, within 100 days.

He pointed out that Modi made impressive speeches during his recent visits to Japan and United States. “Even I was very impressed… But now I am pained to say there is a wide gap between your words and deeds… The past 67 years experience has shown the people that merely speeches don’t bring about change, words and deeds have to match.”

Taking serious exception to the technical reason cited by the Government for its refusal to disclose the names of Indians with accounts in foreign banks, Anna said: “I request this Government to adopt a stern stand on the issue. In issues of public importance, what counts more is morality and not technicality. The people who stash away black money are dishonest people. Their names should be disclosed forthwith.”
