All set to install CCTV cameras across city: CM

As the nation remembers Nirbhaya gangrape incident with teary eyes, taking a major stride towards making national Capital safer for women, the Delhi Government is all set to install CCTV cameras across Delhi.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the tenders for the installation of CCTVs have been opened and there are no impediments in technical evaluation on its way. “Expected to be completed in five months the Delhi Government plans to install around 2,000 cameras in each of the 70 Assembly constituencies in Delhi.

Recalling the heart-wrenching brutal incident of December 16 gangrape that shook the nation by its conscience in 2012, Kejriwal said that enough steps have not been taken for the women security.

The Public Works Department of Delhi Government has already floated tenders to install around 1.4 lakh CCTV cameras across the Capital. “The tenders for installing CCTV cameras in Delhi have been opened. I was talking to the PWD Minister, and perhaps if there are no impediments in technical evaluation, soon we will have CCTV cameras across the city,” said Kejriwal.

“A few years ago, on this day, the Nirbhaya incident that took place in the city. I don’t think, together we all have taken any bold steps towards bolstering the security of women. It is a matter of concern for all of us and we should not indulge in blaming each other,” said Kejriwal while addressing a gathering at the inauguration of a loop at a flyover in Mukundpur.

At the gathering, the Chief Minister also announced that unauthorised colonies will have proper facilities like roads and water and sewer lines in two-three years.

He also promised to make basic civic amenities available in all unauthorised colonies, “Big projects and big roads are important, and our Government is working on several projects. But, our concern is also the unauthorised colonies, where people are living hellish lives. In two-three years, leaving aside a few colonies, all unauthorised colonies, will have the proper facility of roads, water, sewer and gutter. Those 30-35 (colonies) have forest or ASI issues,” he said.
