Akhilesh given chairmanship of SP's Parliamentary Board

Akhilesh Yadav has been made the chairman of the Parliamentary Board of the State unit of the Samajwadi Party. As per the established norm and the constitution of the party .the State president of the party holds this position. Akhilesh Yadav has been appointed to this post as part of the 'peace formula' brokered by party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav for ending the dispute in the party.

The Parliamentary Board has a key role in distribution of tickets for the State Assembly election and other bodies like panchayat and Upper House of the State legislature. In his additional responsibility as chairman of the SP Parliamentary Board, Akhilesh will have a role in the entire ticket distribution process for the 2017 State Assembly elections. .

It seems that Akhilesh has had a last laugh in the ongoing feud in the first family of the ruling Samajwadi Party. After an almost week-long political brinkmanship that brought chacha Shivpal Yadav and bhatija Akhilesh in an unprecedented face off, it was left to the Samajwadi Party's patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav to work out a compromise formula. It seems Mulayam has quelled the tide for now as both sides appear to have agreed to bury the hatchet.

This is precisely what Akhilesh wanted - the power to decide who gets the ticket for the next Assembly election - as a quid pro quo to restoring all the portfolios to chacha Shivpal in his Cabinet and continue to let him head the party State unit.

Akhilesh Yadav on Friday had staked a claim for "power to distribute party tickets" in the forthcoming Assembly elections. He had said, "He was ready to return party posts and even portfolios, but he must have the power to distribute tickets, because the forthcoming poll is, after all, a test for him and the party". Akhilesh had also said he felt slighted when he was removed as the State party chief and replaced by his uncle Shivpal Yadav.
