With just a day left for the final verdict on Government formation in the Capital, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday took the city by storm as it organised hundreds of public meetings in order to gauge public opinion on the issue. AAP candidates of all 70 constituencies held multiple Jan Sabhas in their areas seeking public view on the issue. The meetings, which the party considers as the basic essence of referendum over social media and other electronic forms, were well attended by people.
As hundreds of supporters thronged the Sector 5 ground of RK Puram, there was visible consent among the masses for the AAP to form Government in the Capital. Addressing the Jan Sabha there, AAP leader Shazia Ilmi said, “The Congress is trying to divert the common people’s mind to show that we are not able to fulfil our promises and if we support the Congress to formulate the Government with it, then the BJP is pointing out that we are B team of the Congress. Both, the Congress and the BJP, are playing unethical politics.”
In Khichripur village of Patparganj, MlA Manish Sisodia organised his second Jan Sabha which received an overwhelming response too. The narrow lane of the Dhobi Ghat, where the event was held, Sisodia read out the letter and the 18 conditions his party put forth before the Congress for alliance. While almost all hands rose in favour of the party forming the Government here, there were still a few who wanted re-elections. Manoj Kumar, MlA from Kondli — which is a reserved seat for the Scheduled Castes, was also present. He had organised a similar public meeting in his constituency as well and said that the party is in great pressure from the people to form a Government.
Targeting senior leaders of the BJP and the Congress, IIT alumni and newly-elected MlA from Malviya Nagar Somnath Bharti — at his Jan Sabha — said, “We did not seek the Congress’ help for forming a Government in Delhi. We had served our conditions and demands before the Deputy Governor but instead of talking to us, the Congress leader directly met the Deputy Governor to inform that they wanted to give us unconditional support — it is their conspiracy to underestimate us before the people. That is the reason why we are organising Jan Sabhas to take people’s views on whether to form a Government with the Congress.”
In the Jan Sabhas, AAP MlAs read out the letter in which they have indicated that they will bear zero tolerance to crimes against women and corruption. literacy will be their main focus and they will make a utility index of every Government school to make necessary changes.
