The line of Control spread across the frontier districts of Rajouri and Poonch in Jammu region is once again witnessing uneasy calm ahead of the DG level talks between BSF and their Pak counterparts in New Delhi beginning September 9. In the last five days at least six incidents of ceasefire violations have been reported across Jammu region.
An Army jawan deployed along the forward post in KG sector was injured on Saturday morning after the Pakistan Army trained their guns towards Indian positions. “Pakistani troops violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district injuring one Indian soldier around 7.45 am,” Defence spokesman said.
In another ceasefire violation, Pakistani troops targeted forward posts along the loC in Balakot sector in Poonch district from 21:50 hours to 22:15 hours last night, he said.
The Indian troops, already in a state of high alert repulsed the fire using similar calibre to weapons. Meanwhile, situation along the International border in RS Pura sector remained tense as large number of villagers falling in the direct line of fire have been staying out of their houses and spending long nights inside bunkers and other safe places to avoid getting caught in the cross fire. The villagers fear fresh escalation ahead of the DG level talks and have been directed by the BSF to exercise caution especially during the night.
