A ray of hope for poor acid attack victims

In a move to give a new lease of life to burn victims and survivors of acid attacks and accidents, a seven-day free plastic surgery camp called “Umeed ek nayi zindagi ki” is going to be organised from April 20 to April 26.

The underprivileged patients will be treated at this camp by reputed surgeons from abroad for free. The camp will be organised jointly by Prayag Hospital (Noida) and Rotary Club of Noida.

A senior official of Prayag Hospital said that the hospital is aiming to treat those suffering from borne deformities and acid attack. “Plastic surgeries are very costly and difficult to afford by everyone so our initiative is to try and bring happiness to the underprivileged section with such kind of sufferings.”

Pritika Singh, CEO of Prayag Hospital, said that the people who have suffered disfiguring injuries and have a complex about their looks can hope to lead a normal life after reconstructive surgery. All types of plastic surgery procedures are carried out at this hospital. She also said that Prayag Hospital has a well-equipped plastic surgery ward and also a burn unit for the care of the patients.

“We are planning to conduct as many surgeries as possible. If we are not able to attend all eligible patients, we will hold another camp to accommodate them in the coming days,” she added.

It is also claimed the initiative is first of its kind in Delhi, NCR, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. A large number of people are expected to turn out for registration starting from Saturday. The hospital authority is not charging anything for the surgery, hospitalisation and medicines. “Also patients would be provided free food and other requisite facilities after and during treatment.”

Shashank Agarwal, president of Rotary Club of Noida said that the surgeries will be conducted by a team of prominent doctors and registrations are now open. A screening camp would be held to decide the cases which need to be treated through surgery, he added.

“We have decided to address the issue by keeping the humanity in mind. We will conduct surgeries for facial deformity, burn injury marks, depressed nose, upper or lower limb deformity and hand or feet deformity,” he further said.

“To register for the services one can dial 9627400033 or log in to our website www.prayaghospital.in and apply. All applicants would be called to screening camp and their cases will be discussed by experts before treatment,” a senior official of the hospital said.
