For those who like to try out new eating places, la Vie, that has a summer speical menu, makes for a must visit. Though the decor is simple and the menu not very extensive, the food more than makes up for the shortcomings, says SHAlINI SAKSENA
It is September end and October is only a few days away, yet the Capital is hot and one would still like to eat a cool and light meal that refreshes you once you step into a restaurant away from the blazing sun. One such eatery that makes for a visit is la Vie in Khan Market. Though the restaurant is small and the decor simple — nothing to rave about — it is the special summer dishes and the cool drinks that have been carefully selected that are a delight to the palate.
looking at the menu, one will be disappointed since it is very limited but one can order from the regular menu as well which has soups, a variety of salads, pizzas and pastas done to perfection. But the summer fresh salad is not only refreshing but the light dressing makes this a perfect dish to order and begin your meal. Add to this Cafe Da (Vietnamese iced coffee) — caramelised milk with a concoction of coffee served over ice — is definitely a thirst quencher. If you are a coffee person, this is one drink for which you would want to go back again and again. For those who love shakes, it is definitely the caramel choco shake or a ban’oreo shake (banana shake with Oreo cookies).
Next, if you are a non-vegetarian go for the Spanish Tango — chicken wrapped in ham, served over a mount of salad and freshly crushed pepper. Though it is a little spicy, the flavours burst in your mouth.
Pankaj Negi, the man who prefers to stay in the background and look after the restaurant operations, tells you that the menu is not exactly a promotion but designed to offer clients something new and different from the usual dishes that they have in their menu.
“In summers people are looking for something light and refreshing, this menu has both. Some of the dishes have been much appreciated and will find their way into the main menu,” Negi tells you.
While he recommends the Hawaiian Vacation pizza that has ham, pineapple, cherry tomatoes and olives, the peppery chicken pizza is not a bad choice either. If pizzas don’t appeal, try the Tortellini Al Fresco handmade tortellini tossed with rocket and crunchy spinach. Sans the usual tomato sauce, the high point of this dish is that it is light and cooked to perfection.
To end this perfect meal, do not forego the blueberry cheese cake.
