Godhra town which was epicentre of the infamous Gujarat riots came into limelight once again for wrong reason as the Gujarat police nabbed four persons in connection with creating forge documents to help infiltration bid of Pakistani nationals.
The four persons arrested by police have been identified as Hussain Abdur Rahim, Imtiaz Ahmed Ismail, Nissar Ahmed Abdul Hafiz and Sohail Ahmed allegedly involved in creating fake documents for Pakistani nationals. Rahim is a former principal of a local college.
All the accused were arrested with a large quantity of bogus sponsor letters, election identity cards, duplicate electricity bills and other forged Government documents. The Special Operation Group of the Godhra police launched investigations into the matter after noticing a sudden spurt in the arrival of Pakistani citizens on ‘sponsorship’ from their ‘relatives’ in Godhra. The record showed that the number of Pakistanis coming to Godhra was only 104 in 2012, which increased to 876 in 2013 and more than doubled to 1,803 during 2014.
“Arrested Godhra residents used to create fake sponsor letters to enable some Pakistani citizens to illegally enter into India. Once they were in, they were provided the fake electricity bills, election identity cards to show them as locals,” said police, adding that Hussain signed documents as ‘principal’ to provide some illegal entrants school leaving certificates while Imtiaz who owned a photo-copy shop copied the documents.
