At least three Pakistan Rangers were killed by Border Security Force (BSF) jawans in strong retaliation to ‘unprovoked’ ceasefire violation along the International Border (IB) in Arnia and Pargwal area of Jammu frontier on saturday.

Two Pakistan Rangers were killed by BSF jawans in Pargwal area while another Pakistan ranger was killed along the International border in Arnia sub-sector of RS Pura.

According to latest reports, “intermittent firing was going on in the area and BSF had directed all its foot patrols to stay in a State of high alert to prevent another strike by Pakistan Rangers in the area”.

For last several months  the International Border was relatively calm and had not witnessed any major incident of cross border firing. However, BSF jawans posted on forward posts were regularly reporting suspicious movement of soldiers in some pockets along the International Border.

High alert was also sounded in and around Jammu by intelligence agencies following reports of possible infiltration bids by heavily armed terrorists. Several Army schools and kendriya vidayalays were closed down during the weekend to prevent any strike.

Peace was shattered on the border on Friday when Pakistan rangers first targeted an Indian border guard while he was drinking water at a forward border post in RS Pura sector.

The BSF soldier was hit by a sniper fire and a bullet was lodged over his ear. He was later operated upon and his condition was stated to be stable till last reports came in.

BSF Spokesman in Jammu said, “Pakistan rangers once again resorted to unprovoked firing in Pargwal area and lobbed mortar shells in Dewra village around 2.50 pm on saturday”. In retaliation BSF jawans killed two Pak rangers and giving them befitting reply.  Another Pak ranger was killed in strong retaliation in Arnia sub sector of RS Pura in Jammu, BSF spokesman added.
