A 27-year-old call centre employee has been arrested from North-West Delhi's Ashok Vihar on charges of stalking and molesting a post-graduation student of Delhi University.
Threatening her that he would upload her obscene pictures on the internet, he demanded `1 crore from the victim if she wasn't ready to marry him. However, after his arrest, investigators did not find any obscene pictures of the victim from his possession.
Police said that the accused has been identified as Mohit Sharma, who lives with his parents in Ashok Vihar and works as a medical transcriptionist with a BPO. "The accused was arrested on Wednesday evening from his residence following the complaint of a 25-year-old DU student. The victim told the police that Mohit allegedly molested her and was demanding money from her," the officer added.
The accused and the victim were in the same school in Ashok Vihar area and also lived in the same locality. "After passing school, Mohit started stalking her and after some months, he proposed her for marriage. The victim immediately informed her parents, who in turn approached Mohit's parents and informed them about this matter," police officer said, adding that after both the families intervened, the matter was sorted out and Mohit promised them he will not follow her anymore.
The victim, in her statement, told the police that the accused again started following her six months back and on Monday evening, he waylaid her when she was returning from the market. "Mohit molested her when she objected, and threatened her that he will upload her obscene pictures on the internet if she informed anyone about the incident and did not pay `1 crore to him," said a police personnel.
Police said that the victim was in a state of shock, but later mustered up courage and narrated the whole incident to her parents who in turn informed the police about the incident on Thursday.
