Twenty one restaurants in South Delhi's Hauz Khas village on Saturday were sealed for not having proper environmental clearances. The sealing operation was conducted by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Hauz Khas, Ramchandra M Shingare, along with Delhi Pollution Control Committee and Delhi Police officials.

“Most of these restaurant do not have Consent to Operate (CTO) certificates, given by DPCC, which are mandatory to run hotels in Delhi,” a DPCC official said.

Delhi Jal Board and power discom BSES Rajdhani have also been told to disconnect the water and power supply to these units with immediate effect.DPCC officials said the restaurants were issued notices in advance for violating norms.

“These restaurants were sources of pollution, since none of them followed the waste norms and also did not have license to run it,” he said.

Earlier this month, Delhi HC had termed the Hauz Khas Village as “a ticking time bomb” and observed that neither the Government agencies nor the restaurant owners of the area have responded to its queries on safety and other issues.
