Arkansas newspaper runs Walking Dead obit

Many viewers of AMC’s The Walking Dead took the shocking deaths of two fan favourites in the latest season premiere as personally as a death in the family. One Arkansas newspaper took it a step further.

last week, the Batesville Guard newspaper published an obituary for — spoiler alert— the popular character of Glenn Rhee, who was brutally killed in the newest episode of the zombie apocalypse drama.

With a headline of “RIP, Glenn,” the obituary says the character’s “commitment to moral principles in a world-gone-mad breathed hope and promise into those around him.” The obit seeks justice for Rhee’s death in lieu of flowers. The newspaper says

the obituary was written by Frank Vaughn, a soldier currently stationed in Puerto Rico who writes occasional columns.

Restaurant has complex WiFi password equation

A Thai restaurant in Texas is boggling its customers’ minds by offering free WiFi that nonetheless comes with a price — the password is a complex math equation.

YaYa’s Thai restaurant in San Antonio posted its “WiFi password” just above the sign about minimum credit card purchase amounts, but the Internet access has proven difficult for customers to come by because the “password” is listed as a math equation. A photo of the sign was posted to Reddit, where users — even those good in math — were equally perplexed.

Some users suggested the problem was a trick question, while others said the math equation appears to have several solutions. The user who uploaded the photo promised to attempt some of the suggested solutions and report back with his findings.

Car stolen in 1988 pulled out from Massachusetts river

A car reported stolen in Massachusetts nearly 30 years ago has been found — at the bottom of a river. The Eagle-Tribune reports that a 1986 Nissan was hauled from the Merrimack River in Haverhill last Wednesday. A state police trooper on site ran the vehicle’s identification number and confirmed that it had been reported stolen in 1988. The car was removed by the Clean River Project, a nonprofit dedicated to cleaning up the Merrimack and other rivers in the region.

President Rocky Morrison says the organisation received a grant from the Massachusetts Environmental Trust to remove 20 cars from the Merrimack. Six have been removed so far. The goal is to remove 10 by the end of November, with the remaining to be removed next year.

Duterte says God told him to stop cursing

The foul-mouthed Philippine President, who once called the Pope a “son of a b***h” and told Barack Obama to “go to hell,” says he has promised God he won’t spew expletives again. Rodrigo Duterte’s profanities have become a trademark of his political persona, especially when threatening to kill drugs dealers as part of his war on illegal drugs that has left thousands dead since he took office at the end of June.

Duterte made the stunning pledge on arrival in his hometown of Davao city from a trip to Japan. He said that while flying home, he was looking at the sky while everyone was sound asleep and he heard a voice that said, “If you don’t stop epithets, I will bring this plane down now. And I said, ‘Who is thisIJ’ So, of course, ‘it’s God,’” he said. “So, I promise God to... not express slang, cuss words... So you guys hear me right because a promise to God is a promise to the Filipino people.”

Duterte’s vow was met with applause, but he cautioned: “Don’t clap too much or else this may get derailed.”
