Teen ‘doctor’ arrested on new charges in Virginia
A Florida teenager accused of pretending to be a doctor and stealing money from an 86-year-old patient faces new charges in Virginia after authorities say he fraudulently tried to buy a luxury car. Malachi love-Robinson was arrested last Friday and charged with identity theft and other fraud offenses after he attempted to purchase a Jaguar at a car dealership, Stafford County Sheriff’s officials say.
They said employees at Kargar Motors Car Dealership became suspicious when love-Robinson applied for a car loan with an elderly woman as the co-signer on the loan. The employees called the sheriff’s office after looking up love-Robinson’s name in an internet search.
Deputies came to the car dealership and spoke with love-Robinson, who said he came to Virginia to buy a car for himself and another for his godmother. The woman, who was not identified, later told deputies that she had not given love-Robinson permission to be listed as a co-signer on the loan. She also told police she was unaware of recent purchases made on her credit card for two iPads. The sheriff’s office says deputies seized the iPads when they arrested love-Robinson.
love-Robinson was arrested in February after law enforcement officials in Florida said he was practicing medicine without a license. Authorities in Palm Beach County said love-Robinson was illegally operating a medical practice — complete with an office, a lab coat and stethoscope — but had no license to do so.

ATM at Ohio school doles out pizza
A newly installed ATM at an Ohio university is doling out the next best thing to money — pizza. Xavier University in Cincinnati has partnered with a French company to install the first Pizza ATM in North America.
The company, Paline, says the machine will hold 70 pizzas at once. Each medium-sized pizza costs $9 or $10, depending on toppings. Customers will be able to use a touchscreen to select a pizza, which will be heated for several minutes, placed in a cardboard box and ejected through a slot.
Paline says the pizza dispensers have been in Europe for 14 years. They’re typically in small towns, at gas stations or pizzerias. Pizza lovers have been using the machine since it started providing pies last Thursday.

Man robbed Kansas bank to get away from his wife
A man accused of robbing a Kansas bank and immediately surrendering to a security guard told investigators he preferred jail to life with his wife, the FBI said. lawrence John Ripple, 70, allegedly walked into the Bank of labor in Kansas City on September 2 and handed a teller a note reading, “I have a gun, give me money.”
Court documents state Ripple took the money and sat down in the lobby of the bank until he was approached by a security guard. “I’m the guy you’re looking for,” he allegedly told the guard.
Police responded quickly to the bank, which is on the same block as the city’s police headquarters, and Ripple was arrested. Ripple allegedly told investigators he has been arguing with his wife and “no longer wanted to be in that situation,” court documents state.
The FBI affidavit in support of a robbery charge against Ripple states the suspect “wrote out his demand note in front of his wife ... and told her he’d rather be in jail than at home.”
Ripple’s wife said he had become angry when she reminded him that the clothes dryer needed to be repaired.
Ripple, who was charged with robbery and aggravated robbery, might have to wait to get his wish for jail over home life; he was released on bond on Wednesday.

Newly discovered flatworm named ‘Baracktrema obamai’
Scientists looked to honour United States President Barack Obama by naming a newly discovered blood fluke after him. The new genus of parasitic flatworms which resides in Malaysian freshwater turtles will be known as “Baracktrema obamai” according to the Journal of Parasitology.
Thomas R Platt, who discovered the flatworm, told the Philadelphia Inquirer the name was not meant to poke fun at or insult President Obama. “This is something I take very seriously, and I am doing this with utmost respect,” he said. While he admitted he likely would have avoided naming the flatworm after Obama if he were up for re-election, Platt said the decision came due to his deep admiration for the creatures. “I respect them. I love them dearly. I think they are fantastic,” he said.
