Traveller accidentally locates his phone’s screensaver in italy

An American traveller was left stunned when he accidentally stumbled upon the location of his phone’s screensaver on a trip to Italy.

Jarrod Robertson had always wanted to visit the picturesque alpine meadow but had previously been unable to locate it.

He posted the photo of him standing in front of the mountain, with the caption: “After having it for two years, I accidentally FOUND my phone background the other day!”

“I was looking up mountain towns in the north of Italy to visit while I was living there and found that image labelled as ‘Alpe di Siusi’. I fell in love with it so I made it my phone background and told myself I would find it one day,” he explained.

He added: “While my parents and I were on a trip to Santa Cristina, my mum saw some ski lifts that were running and asked if we (the family) wanted to take them...it was only €15/person during the summer so we decided to take the lift. At the top my mind was blown away to see my phone background straight off the lift.”

Squirrel gets head stuck in cup

Emergency responders in Connecticut have come to the rescue of a squirrel that was caught in a nutty situation.

Members of Enfield Emergency Medical Services responded after the rodent got its head stuck in what appeared to be a plastic or paper cup.

Video posted on the Enfield EMS Facebook page shows the critter wildly jumping and flipping into the air in an effort to dislodge the cup.

The responders’ first attempt to remove the cup was unsuccessful. The wily rodent then hopped out of one officer’s hands and through the legs of another.

The second attempt proved more successful. An officer covered the animal with a blanket and held its body steady while another officer removed the cup before the critter scampered away into some nearby bushes.

Wanted Man Caught Playing Pokemon Go near police station

A Pokemon Go player who was trying to catch ‘em all ended up getting caught by police.

William Wilcox was arrested for an outstanding arrest warrant after police in Milford, Michigan, saw him playing Pokemon Go outside of the station, which also happens to be a Pokemon gym.

“He made our job much easier for us that day,” Milford Police Chief Thomas lindberg told Fox2Detroit.com.

Officers said the 24-year-old Wilcox was in pajama pants standing near a flagpole when they recognised him thanks to a rap sheet that includes a 2014 conviction for receiving stolen property, according to The Smoking Gun.

Officials checked records and discovered Wilcox was wanted on a misdemeanor warrant for a failure to appear on a breaking and entering charge.

Wilcox was taken into custody without incident right when he was trying to catch the character at the flagpole.

“He either forgot that he had a warrant out for his arrest or was just ignoring it thinking nothing will happen,” lindburg told WXYZ TV. “I think he was more upset that he had to stop playing the game.”

At Russian Mosquito Festival, the more bites the better

While fears of the Zika virus have kept some people away from the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, for residents of one Russian town the more mosquito bites the better.

At this weekend’s Russian Mosquito Festival in the town of Berezniki, 9-year-old Irina Ilyukhina won the “tastiest girl” category with 43 bites to show for going berry-picking in the forest with her mother. She was awarded a ceramic cup in recognition of the welts all over her legs.

Unusually hot and dry weather in the Ural Mountains town, however, has greatly depleted the number of mosquitoes this year. Festival organisers had to cancel the traditional mosquito hunt, where participants try to collect as many of the insects as possible in jars.

The heat also had Yana Solyarskaya sweltering in her mosquito costume as she led some of the dancing at the festival, now in its fourth year.

Russia has detected only a few Zika cases, all in people who are believed to have been infected in areas overseas where the virus has spread.

Fisherman carries exhausted shark back to sea

A fisherman who reeled in a shark in Maryland got into the water to help the exhausted predator swim back out to sea.

The video shows the fisherman get into the water at an Ocean City beach after reeling in a shark July 15.

The shark appears to still be alive but doesn’t struggle or fight the man as he lifts it up and carries it out to deeper waters.

“After catching this shark off the beach, I had to get in the water to take the hook out and make sure the shark would swim off OK,” the uploader wrote. “The shark was caught on rod and reel and was worn out.”
