acquaintance hoped Indira meets Bose’s daughter

New Delhi:  Though Indira Gandhi expressed her inability to meet Dr (Mrs) Anita Martin Plaff, the daughter of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose during the former’s visit to the USA, a Nehru-Gandhi family acquaintance MO Vakil insisted that the Prime Minister meets her in Washington. In a letter dated March 17, 1966, Vakil, a Mumbai  resident, says he  “is hoping against hope” that Indira runs into Anita in Washington and meets Bose’s daughter in her capacity as president of Anita Bose Trust and INA fund. Plaff, he says, has married and settled in Washington.

‘Financial help Given through private sources’

New Delhi: A Parliament question in lok Sabha in 1955 sought to know whether Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had an occasion to meet Netaji’s wife and daughter during his tour to Europe. “I find some difficulty in answering these questions as there are some delicacies about them,” the Prime Minister said.  He said the Government was wanting to offer all help to them and also invite them but would not like to do anything which may not be welcomed by them. He said financial assistance is being given through private sources.
