Informative Article On Tibetan Buddhism

In response to Rinku Ghosh’s ‘A Stupa-ndous journey’ published on November 15:

When we were in Sarnath, near Varanasi, we visited a Chinese Buddha temple, called laughing Buddha temple. First thing that struck me was the Ashoka stupa with four lions. I now have it in front of me as I bought a replica of it from a shop there. Incidentally, Sarnath itself is full of monks from all parts of East Asian Nations. So is Bodh Gaya.

When we were in Bodh Gaya, around 7:30 pm, which is the prayer time, it was full of people with some foreigners seated inside mosquito tents near the famous tree, trying to fall into deep meditation and to be one with whole mankind (and with all creatures tooIJ). I thank the author for this very informative and descriptive article on Tibetan Buddhism | AARAAM, Bangalore

Pak Founded On Fallacy

In response to Rajesh Singh’s ‘Tracking Pakistan’s political trajectory’ published on Oct 25:

Pakistan was founded on a fallacy that Muslims would not be safe in ‘Hindu’ India. This was, even at that time, a wrong premise by which to divide a united people and land. The blood of millions of misguided innocents was spilt in partition. Why did this assumption failIJ Well history has shown that Muslims do live in freedom and have prospered in (so-called Hindu) India as proud and patriotic citizens.

India chose democracy, and so the reason of Pakistan’s existence is proven invalid. If a nation was to be founded on Islamic principles then the tenets of the Quran should have been followed to a letter, and not misinterpreted for individual power and political power. PoK (Muslims), Army rule (not Islamic), Muhajirs (Muslims) not given recognition, Brother Muslims of

East Pakistan brutalised, Balochistan (Muslims) — and they called it a democracyIJ

Terrorism — Pakistan is a contradiction and is based on a false premise and contradictions cannot exist in nature. That is a fact. So they will exist so long as they can justify to their citizens that Partition was the right decision. You can thrash that dead donkey only that long; 60 odd years is long enough by any measure. Indians now care two hoots about Pakistan and look forward to a glorious future | KM Rajendran, Australia

Much was anticipated and much was written even before Nawaz Sharif got to USA and much more has been written after he came back. The summary of the visit is that Nawaz Sharif drew a blank.

Pakistan’s position is like that of an errant son who climbs to the top of a high house and shouts to his mother on the ground that he is about to jump over. “Ma, mein koodne laga hoon. Ma, mein koodne laga hoon.” Everybody knows — except the mother — that the chap is bluffing and that he will not jump over come what may. Pakistan has cried wolf a little too often and has had support now from USA, now from China, in its shady activity — because both want to keep India under some sort of a check. Pakistan has been a willing tool in the hands of these powers. Pakistan on its own has no power to try military conclusions with India, even with its nuclear weapons, which it cannot use under any conditions, repeat, under any conditions. Pakistan can only bluff. It will be India’s concern to call Pakistan’s bluff at some stage and prove what a hoax Pakistan has been throughout. At that moment, USA and China will have no option but to take note of ground actuality as far as Pakistan is concerned. Neither of them will fight a war with India for Pakistan’s sake: Their national interests are not involved. Nations don’t fight wars except for the protection of their known national interests.

For the rest, it is a question of time before the rest of the world acknowledges Pakistan to be what it is, namely, a state sponsor of terrorism. When that day comes, USA and China shall be unable to help Pakistan. Pakistan shall be written down as an eternal pariah | VC Bhutani, Delhi

Cradle Of Civilisation

In response to Rinku Ghosh’s ‘A Stupa-ndous journey’ published on November 15:

Is there any evidence that the subject of this article is truly ‘Ashokan’IJ | Josh, Thailand

Bharat/India is the cradle of civilisation, the whole world knows it. And it is denied by a section of Indians, who controlled the nation for about 60 years. It is our job to liberate the nation and take it to the peak of civilisational heritage. Good job, Rinku Ghosh. Keep it up | Bharatk, Netherlands
