CONGRESSMAN SWIPES POPE’S WATER GlASS, TAKES A SIP

A Pennsylvania Congressman said he swiped Pope Francis’ abandoned glass of water following his address to Congress and sipped it with his wife and staffers. US Rep Bob Brady, D-Philadelphia, said he watched as Pope Francis sipped from the water glass three times during his address to a joint meeting of Congress and he made his way to the lectern to take the cup once the pontiff finished his remarks and left the water behind.

“The Congressman is a Catholic and has immense respect for the Holy Father,” Brady’s chief of staff, Stan White, told ABC News.

Brady told the Philadelphia Daily News he took the glass back to his office, where he sipped from it with his wife, Debra, and two staffers. “How many people do you know that drank out of the same glass as the PopeIJ” Brady asked.

Brady said he poured the rest of the water in a bottle and plans to use it to bless his four grandchildren. Brady said he is keeping the glass in a paper bag so he can have police fingerprint it and confirm its authenticity.

COPS APOlOGISE FOR USING SIRENS TO SETTlE DEBATE

British police apologised to neighbours of a school after officers set off sirens to settle a student debate about whether they went “woo-woo” or “nee-nah.” The North Swindon Police posted an apology on Facebook explaining officers were giving a “People Who Help Us” talk to students at Haydonleigh Primary School in Swindon, England, when staff and students at the school told the officers they had been debating whether police sirens make a “woo-woo” sound or a “nee-nah.”

“That’s why we ended up setting off the sirens quite a bit,” PCSO Emma Harryman of the North Swindon Police told the BBC. The school put the debate to a vote and pupils overwhelmingly chose “woo-woo” as the closest description of the siren sound. The police Facebook post read: “Apologies to anyone in the area who may have been disturbed by our sirens  — the PCSOs were at the Primary School having a very important debate with the new Reception Year children about whether they go nee-nah or woo-woo.”

MICHIGAN WOMAN GROWS DUCK-SHAPED TOMATO

A Michigan woman growing tomatoes in her garden said she was tending her crop when she discovered a fruit shaped perfectly like a rubber duck. Maria Davidek of Mount Morris in Genesee County said she made the unusual discovery while gardening last week. “I picked it up and thought, ‘Oh my gosh! He looks just like a little duck!’” Davidek told CBS Detroit.

Davidek said she knew she had to show the unusual tomato to her husband, Bob. “I said, ‘no, no... you didn’t find a duck’ and she showed me that. And it was a chicken or a duck,” Bob Davidek told WWMT-TV. Marie Davidek said she hasn’t decided whether the duck tomato will become a quack-shaped snack. “I don’t know whether I would ever... but he’s getting riper so the day is coming when I know I won’t have my duck tomato anymore,” she said. Davidek said she hopes the tomato’s fame will inspire other budding gardeners.

“This is really something that I think a lot of people should see,” she told WNEM-TV. “Maybe somebody else will starting doing a garden.”

RUGBY WORlD CUP URINAl GAME WIll TEST YOUR PEE POWER

Many pints will be drunk and passed in UK pubs during the thrilling Rugby World Cup. So one enterprising establishment has hit on a very hi-tech way to keep blokes amused during the inevitable toilet break.

They’ve installed a video game in the urinals that you play by peeing. In the game, you’re given the task of controlling a player running for the try line. You need to steer your player past the oncoming opponents.

And how do you do thatIJ The game eloquently asks you to use your “stream” to guide the player. An image of the game was uploaded to photo-sharing site Imgur — sadly with no knowledge of which pub had implemented the clever game.

Created by betting company Betsafe, the game has even been endorsed by former England rugby star Kyran Bracken. “The Betsafe Rugby Challenge is a really innovative and fun way for guys, and their tackle, to get involved in the rugby. This has to be the first time in Rugby World Cup history that someone has the opportunity to win tickets to the final by nipping to the gents,” Bracken said.

‘RUBBISH’ ARTIST CREATES PORTRAITS USING WASTE

An artist is using everyday items most people throw away to create stunning artworks of famous faces, including Amy Winehouse. From buttons and abandoned Barbie heads to black beans and ketchup, artist Nadia luongo crafts each piece using a mix of mad materials. Artworks are given names such as ‘Drew Berry-more’, ‘The lord of the Onion Rings’ and combine celebrity names and film titles with their food painting materials.

Nadia, a graduate in Biomedical Engineering from Naples, Italy, has been passionate about drawing since childhood. Her unusual works take between 20 minutes to an hour to create and sell for around £15 each. She said: “I’ve dedicated myself to make some celebrities portraits using trash and some useless objects. That’s a way for me to give new life to things that would normally be thrown away.”
