Twitter ups character limit to 10,000

Twitter  would get rid of the 140-character limit on direct messaging. It will now allow users to send direct messages that are 10,000 characters long.

“You may be wondering what this means for the public side of Twitter. Nothing! Tweets will continue to be the 140 characters they are today,” the company wrote in a blog.

Needless to say, with the fierce competition in the messaging space with the likes of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger, the company sure knows instant messaging will be a big deal in the future. However, the new changes won’t come until July.

Moreover, Twitter has some recommendations to ensure that the apps and services can handle the longer messaging format. The blog asks users to, “review API additions, update your GET requests so you will be able to receive the full length of DM text and adjust your app UI to accommodate longer DM text”.

Quakes occur on the moon tooIJ

An analysis of pictures taken by Chandrayaan-1 has found that tectonic plates are present inside moon’s surface similar to earth and cause quakes on colliding which each other.

Professor of Geology and Remote Sensing at School of Environmental Sciences at Jawaharlal Nehru University, Saumitra Mukherjee, along with his student Priyadarshini Singh, have analysed the pictures of the surface of moon taken by the narrow angle camera and lunar reconnaissance orbiter camera of Chandrayaan-1.

The data collected from south polar region of the moon reveals that many evidences have been found which establish that tectonic activity occur on the lunar surface, very similar to that on earth, Prof Mukherjee said.

“Tectonic plates at surface move due to mantle layer of earth’s core and the movement of tectonic plates on moon establish that some material in liquid form is present under its surface too,” he said.
