lupita’s $150,000 Oscar gown returned by thief as ‘It’s fake’

The $150,000 Oscar gown worn by actress lupita Nyong’o that was stolen two days ago was returned by the thief, who tipped off celebrity news site TMZ.com after learning the pearls on the dress were fake, according to officials and the website.

TMZsaid the thief took the Calvin Klein dress from Nyong’o’s hotel room on Wednesday after finding the door ajar. The Kenyan actress had worn the dress adorned with 6,000 pearls to the recent Academy Awards in one of the most commented looks of the night.

los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department lieutenant Michael White told reporters at a news conference that they received a call from a media outlet who reported hearing from an anonymous caller that the dress had been returned to the london Hotel.

The media source said the thief removed two pearls from the dress and took them to the Garment District in downtown los Angeles where they were told they were not real, according to White.

Nicole Nishida, a spokeswoman with the department, later confirmed that the media source was TMZ.

The thief then took the dress back to the london West Hollywood hotel and said it was in a garment bag inside a trash bag in a bathroom, White said.

Woman digs up dad’s grave for real will

A woman who told police she dug up her father’s grave in search of his “real will” but found only vodka and cigarettes pleaded guilty.

Melanie Nash, 53, was one of four accused in the plan to open Eddie Nash’s vault in Colebrook, then rifle through his casket last May in a scene a prosecutor compared to an Edgar Allan Poe story.

Police said she felt she was shorted in her share of the inheritance after her father died in 2004. They didn’t find a will in the casket. Nash, who faced trial in March, instead agreed to plead guilty to charges of criminal mischief, interference with a cemetery, conspiracy and abuse of a corpse. Her sentencing is scheduled for May 5. Two others pleaded guilty; a third person was acquitted.

Nash told police she did not receive anything when her father died and had been thinking of digging up the grave for years to prove that her sister, Susie Nash, ‘hid the will.’

Susie Nash has said there was only one will when her father’s estate plan was done in 1995 and everyone involved knew about it.

In a written statement to police last June, Melanie Nash wrote that she met up with the others to go to the cemetery. She wrote: ‘All this was done for the right reasons and I know my father would be OK with it.’

rehab for alcoholic russian bears

A pair of Russian bears purported to have become alcoholics from living outside a Sochi restaurant for 20 years are being offered rehab in Romania. The Big Hearts Foundation said the two male bears, which a February court ruling ordered to be seized from the owner of the Georgian restaurant in Sochi on March 3, have been offered a new home at a bear sanctuary outside Brasov, Romania, where officials said the animals would be treated for alcohol addiction.

“The people there have worked with dancing bears who had similar problems,” Anna Kogan, head of the Big Hearts Foundation, told the BBC. “It can be done.” The Big Hearts Foundation, based in Britain, is working with charities, including France’s Brigitte Bardot Foundation, to secure transport for the animals. Kogan said the charities are seeking help with the logistics of the bears’ move. “It’s a very expensive process to move them abroad,” Kogan said.

burglar falls asleep in room after eating tub of ice cream

A dozy burglar was jailed for a Goldilocks crime — falling asleep in the spare bedroom after eating too much during a house raid. Greedy Matthew Waters, 30, ate a whole tub of ice cream before lying down on the bed and falling asleep. He was woken when startled homeowner Julie James, 51, returned from work to find Water sprawled on the bed in her spare room. Newport Crown Court heard her screams woke the dozing burglar up from his snooze. Waters “looked stunned” when he woke on the bed and got up and ran past Mrs James to leave the house, Pontypool, South Wales.

Mrs James told how panicked when she found sleeping Waters — and that her grandchildren began crying. She said: “Since this, when I come home from work, I take a poker from the grate and check all the rooms. The letter further continued, “For weeks later I could not sleep in the fear that someone may break in again”.
