SKIN SIGNAlS THAT SPARK HAIR GROWTH

Researchers claim to have cracked the code of how hair growth is activated. They say the discovery could have implications for baldness treatments in humans. Researchers were able to pinpoint the signals from the skin cells that activate hair growth. Despite previous studies, how different types of cells that reside in the skin communicate to activate hair growth has continued to puzzle biologists. The new study published in the open access journal PlOS Biology reveals a new way to spur hair growth. The discovery that macrophages activate skin stem cells could influence technologies with potential applications in many ways such as tissue regeneration, aging, and in cancer.

HOW MUSIC BENEFITS CHIlDREN

Theories abound about the cognitive advantages of playing the piano or violin early in life, and recent research says it could also help children to focus, control their emotions and reduce their anxiety. The findings indicate that playing music should be considered, among its other benefits, as an outlet to help children handle psychological disorders. “We treat things that result from negative things, but we never try to use positive things as treatment,” says lead author James Hudziak, M.D., professor of psychiatry and director of the Vermont Center for Children, Youth and Families. Hudziak found evidence from the scans that playing music changes the behavior-regulating areas of the brain, thickening the part of the cortex that controls executive functioning.

SlEEP PATTERN DETERMINES HAPPINESS

How you sleep with your partner may decide how your love life is going to be in the future. You just need to make sure you switch off the laptop and hit the bed with her at the same time. “The more you and your partner’s sleep schedules match up, the happier your partnership tends to be,” Shape magazine reported, quoting a latest study from University of Pittsburgh. People who went to sleep together reported the highest rates of relationship bliss. “But as the physical space between people increased, so did their relationship woes,” the study said. Sleeping face to face means stronger relationship while sleeping back to back and on opposite sides of the bed was a sign of strife. If tensed, try sleeping in different beds for a night than together as a stressed brain brings negativity.
