German shepherd on jury duty
Cumberland County, NJ, has summoned IV Griner to jury duty. The only problem is that IV is a five-year-old German shepherd. Her owner tells KYW-TV in Philadelphia he sorted out the confusion soon after the summons arrived at his Bridgeton home. The dog’s owner is Barrett Griner IV. He uses the Roman numeral for four in his name. He named his dog using the letters “I’’ and “V.”The county’s judiciary coordinator says the computer likely mistook the Roman numeral for Griner’s first name and mailed the summons.(AP)
Boy found in bowling alley claw machine
A three-year-old reported missing in lincoln, Nebraska has been found alive and well inside one of those arcade games where you try and grab stuffed animals with a claw. The child’s mother called police around 5:30pm on Monday after he went missing from her apartment, KETV reports. He was soon found to have made his way not only across the street to a bowling alley, but inside a claw machine, presumably after some sort of Toy Story adventure that involved shrinking potions and mild peril.
Employees called the vendor who quickly arrived to let the boy out, disappointingly using a key and not the remote controlled claw.

Snake’s meal returns to bite her
A young viper was found dead with a centipede’s head protruding out of the snake’s body. As reported by NBC News, ljiljana Tomovic, a Serbian herpetologist, was tagging snakes in Macedonia when she made the eye-catching discovery. According to a scientific correspondence recently published in the journal Ecologica Montenegrina, while shorter in length, the 4.8 gram mass of the prey, Scolopendra cingulate, was actually greater than the 4.2 gram female nose-horned viper (Vipera ammodytes).
The find was made on May 14, 2013 and the scientist reported, “…we cannot dismiss the possibility that the snake had swallowed the centipede alive, and that, paradoxically, the prey has eaten its way through the snake, almost reaching its freedom.” Dissection showed that only the snake’s abdominal wall remained, so the centipede caused damage to the snake’s internal organs either chemically or mechanically. When found, the centipede occupied the entire volume of the viper’s body.

Clever scooter driver drives thief to a police station
A purse thief in the region of Guangxi, China last week saw what he thought was a perfect getaway: A friendly person inviting him to hop on the back of his scooter. He jumped on the back and they took off, away from the scene of the crime. The thief shouldn’t have been so quick to trust his new friend, as Shanghaiist notes.
Shanghaiist writes that in Guangxi News Network’s report, the 29-year-old bike driver had been alerted to the robbery and had actually followed the robber into a parking lot. In that parking lot, he pretended that he would help out. The thief then accompanied the driver right to a police station’s parking garage. The thief was swarmed by police, and the scooter driver went on his way.
