Fishing for recognition

Isla Fisher received “no helping hand” when trying to become an actress. The Confessions of a Shopaholic actress admits she struggled to gain recognition when she first moved to Hollywood and was even snubbed by the agent who represented her husband, then-boyfriend, Sacha Baron Cohen after she was fired by her own representative. Speaking in the July edition of Britain's Cosmopolitan magazine, she said: “I really have had no help. In fact, the one time I did ask for help was after my agent in lA fired me. I was auditioning for all sorts of things but kept getting told ‘no’, so she just fired me! Anyway, I said to Sacha, who was my boyfriend at the time, ‘Can you ask your agent if they'll represent meIJ’ And his agent said, ‘No way'. It was the only favour I'd ever asked, and I was like, ‘Okay, great'. But it spurred me on. I've had no helping hand in Hollywood. But in general I've found that when it comes to getting jobs, what's meant for you can't pass you by.”

Do it with Styles

Harry Styles is set to be best man at his mother's wedding this weekend. The One Direction star's parent, Anne Cox, is set to marry her long-term partner, Robin Twist, on June 1, 2013 and he has chosen the heartthrob as a best man, according to the Daily Mirror newspaper. The other members of One Direction Niall Horan, louis Tomlinson, liam Payne and Zayn Malik are also expected to be guests. Harry is very close to Robin, who helped raise him after Anne divorced his biological father, Des, and is said to be thrilled at being asked to be one of the best men at the wedding, which will be held at a secret location. Anne has always supported her 19-year-old son's musical ambitions, from his audition for reality show The X Factor in 2010, where he met the other members of One Direction, to his becoming one of the biggest pop stars on the planet.

No Hobbit for Ronan

Saoirse Ronan felt really disappointed to turn down a role in The Hobbit. The 19-year-old actress was rumoured to be starring in the three-part fantasy adventure, directed by Peter Jackson — whom she had previously worked with on The lovely Bones — but decided it would be better to focus on other projects. She said: “There was talks about me playing the wood elf Itaril but I had to turn it down. I was really disappointed but there were other projects I had to consider and to spend a year doing The Hobbit wouldn't have left me time for anything else.” The Irish star is, at present, filming Ryan Gosling's How to Catch a Monster, which she is finding “a bit twisted”, and also has a string of other films in the pipeline.
