Southern India, the capital of divorce
The southern Indian city of Thiruvananthapuram has become the country’s divorce capital, according to a report. More than 10,000 divorce petitions were filed in the city and surrounding districts during 2012 — almost a third of the total filed across Kerala, which has the highest divorce rate in India. More than 5,000 divorce applications are currently waiting to be heard in the Thiruvananthapuram family court, with infidelity and alcoholism the most commonly cited reasons.
