In a bid to curb ragging in North campus area, the Delhi Police has come out with a mega plan to deploy more than 200 police personnel in the campus area. Besides, there would a special team of 30 personnel in civil uniform who will keep vigil in and around the Delhi University.
Apart from this, Reserve Police Force (RPF) personnel would be deployed at the entry gates of every college to check the entry of outsiders. It is noted that Guru Gobind Singh Khalsa College, Chhatra Marg, Vishwavidayala Metro station and Ring Road are the places which are considered highly sensitive zone for ragging.
"Ragging is a serious crime. If any such case comes, an FIR will be registered and action will be taken immediately. Our team members will be deployed in the highly-sensitive zone in civil uniforms," said Madur Verma, DCP (North).
"We also have held a meeting with University Proctor and conveyed him to inform us about ragging case. The anti- ragging boards/hoardings have been put up in the both South and North Campuses," Verma added.
"In order to make the initial days ragging-free, our team is in the coordination with Delhi University Anti-Ragging Cell, Delhi Traffic Police (DTP) and Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC)," said another police official.
"The entries of outsiders are prohibited. Only the student with valid Identity Card issued the college will be allowed to get in the college," official added.
Beyond the efforts of the Delhi Police to make the campus secure and ragging-free zone, student political bodies are also coming to make the campuses safe.
"Usually, it happens, newcomers hesitate to approach the police. We have also deputed our members in every college. Our members who are studying in the colleges will keep an eye on ragging activities in colleges," said Jaspreet Singh Matta, member, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
"Our main focus is towards the hostel areas. The ragging activities in hostels hardly come out. We are trying to ensure the safety of newcomers especially girl students," Matta added.
Meanwhile, the Delhi University also has set up two joint control rooms. The North Campus students can file their complaints at 011 -27667221 while the number for South Campus students is 011-24119832.
