At least two Assam Rifles (AR) personnel including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) were killed and eight others were injured after armed militants attacked a convoy of the security forces at a remote location along the Indo-Myanmar border in Arunachal Pradesh.

AR sources said that the ambush took place at a remote village located within 20 kms from the International border. "Heavily armed militants ambushed the convoy of the AR which was returning to its base from a routine patrol," the AR spokesman said adding that while the JCO and another soldier died on the spot, eight others were injured. The conditions of two of them were stated to be serious, he added.

This is the third such attack in last one month where the armed militant attacked security personnel. While on November 19, the anti-talk faction of NSCN (K) and the Ulfa had ambushed Army personnel in Assam's Tinsukia district, killing three and injuring four others, armed militants belonging to the United National liberation Front of Western South East Asia (UNlFW)-a joint organization of all northeastern militants-attacked a group of 21 Para commandos at Chandel district in Manipur and injured five of them.

"The militants carried out the attack at around 2pm near Nginu village. The AR troopers Assam Rifles had gone out on a routine patrol yesterday. The incident took place today when they were returning to their base," he said adding that the eight injured also includes a deputy commandant, who sustained bullet injuries on his hand.

"All the injured were airlifted to the Army hospital in Assam's Tinsukia district," he said adding that they suspect the hands of NSCN-K militants behind the incident on Saturday.
