As many as 12 tourists were injured, when a bus overturned inside the Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP) at Borivli in north Mumbai on Saturday morning.
The bus was ferrying tourists from the main gate of SNGP to Kanheri caves, when it turned turtle. There were in all 31 tourists inside the bus, at that time.
The mishap took place at 10 am, when the bus was climbing a slope leading to the Kanheri Caves, located within the forests of SGNP. The Kanheri Caves, a group of rock-cut monuments, demonstrate the Buddhist influence on the art and culture of India.
Having seen a car coming down the slope from the opposite direction all of a sudden, the bus driver tried unsuccessfully to apply break. In the process, the driver lost control of the vehicle. The bus hurtled down and fell into a ditch.
The injured tourists were rushed to the nearby Ambedkar Hospital for treatment. Doctors attending on the injured persons said that none of them had suffered major injuries.
Following the mishap, the Forest department deployed its buses to ferry tourists from SGNP's main gate to the Kanheri Caves.
