KRISHNA CHATURVEDI, who began his career as a model, speaks with SHALINI SAKSENA about how he got into acting and the worst thing about the industry
How did you get into modelling?
When I was in college in Delhi, I used to play cricket professionally. That’s when some people advised me to get into modelling because of my height and personality. I gave it a lot of thought. Once I was convinced that it was something that I could do, I got in touch with some people who told me all there was to know about this field. That’s how the journey began.’
How did you get your first project?
My first proper modelling project was Men’s Fashion Week in Delhi. Before that did some small shoots, but they were more like a hobby. I was selected from among 500 men from India and other countries. That was my first big break and I got to walk for some of the leading fashion designers from India.
Was there a lot of struggle?
There’s struggle in every field. I don’t see it as struggle; I see them as challenges that one needs to overcome. There have been challenges in modelling which included being in perfect shape, having the right frame of mind and having a lot of patience for the right projects to come your way.
What’s the worst thing about the entertainment industry?
Being pretentious is the worst thing about the entertainment industry. People usually show what they are not. That’s what I don’t like about the industry at all. But the truth is just the opposite. People often lose their originality to put forth a fake image.
Was acting always on the cards?
Acting was always on the cards. I had thought about pursuing acting professionally way before getting into modelling. As a teenager, I used to mimic Amitabh Bachchan’s character from Agneepath (1990) and a lot of other actors. I would also mimic my teachers as well. So I always loved acting and was very clear about pursuing it.
How did you come on board for Corner Table?
I was not supposed to do Corner Table. In fact, one of my friends was supposed to do it, but since he got busy, he suggested my name to the director and that’s how I was considered. It was an amazing opportunity to work with the great Tom Alter, so I grabbed the chance immediately.
What are your future plans?
I am the kind of person who doesn’t live in the future or for that matter plan for things that are to come. This is because the future is uncertain. I don’t know what lies ahead. I believe in making the most of the present.
