'Volume of cricket being played is outrageous'

Allan Donald might be a fan of the Indian Premier league but even he doesn’t approve of the overload of the game.
The former South African speedster is definitely tempted to hurl the leather once again, albeit in a “golden oldies IPl”, and is all-praise for the T20 format having made Test cricket quicker and interesting, but he is a worried self when it comes to the quick adaption due to various forms and hence reduced time span of a player.
“I think the volume of cricket being played now is absolutely outrageous. From South African point of view, we can’t afford to play Dale Steyn or Morne Morkel in all three forms. It is time that we blood some new guys,” he said on the eve of his side, Pune Warriors’, clash with Rajasthan Royals here.
“I just don’t think you have choices anymore and that is where the game has gone. Before you think of finishing a Test series, you have got to worry about ODIs and T20s. So, that’s how cricket has evolved so quickly. You have no time to ease anymore,” Donald added.
“But what I think it does is; it fast tracks a lot of good young bowlers or batsmen very quickly. You adapt very quickly as skill level doesn’t stand still for anyone,” the former pacer explained.
