Virat Kohli turns 38 on Thursday, a day after a 74 that carried India to a five-wicket win over New Zealand in a rain-hit first one-day international.

Born in Delhi on November 5, 1988, Kohli made his ODI debut against Sri Lanka in August 2008 and has since scored 86 international centuries — 30 in Tests, 55 in ODIs and one in T20Is. Only Sachin Tendulkar, with 100, has more.

The 55 one-day hundreds are the most in the format. Kohli went past Tendulkar's 49 with 117 against New Zealand in the 2023 World Cup semifinal and has added to the tally since, the last of them against West Indies in Thiruvananthapuram in September.

Across formats he has scored more than 28,000 international runs, including upwards of 15,000 in ODIs at an average above 59.

He captained India in 68 Tests between 2014 and 2021, winning 40 — the most by an Indian captain — and led the side in 95 ODIs.

His 74 on Wednesday came in the first match of the home series against New Zealand, and was built in conditions that twice interrupted play.
