Vijender ends agreement with Queensberry

WBO Super Middleweight Asia Pacific champion Vijender Singh has decided to terminate his agreement with Queensberry Promotions with immediate effect. Vijender, however, will continue to be associated with IOS Boxing promotions in the future.

A statement released by the Olympic bronze medalist stated, "I have decided to end my agreement with Queensberry promotions. For future fights I am in discussions with my current promoter IOS Boxing Promotions."

"There were a lot of things that Queensberry Promotions had committed to me as part of their contractual obligations, but failed to deliver. I have had a very good career with them, but not fulfilling what you commit is something I don't agree," the statement read.

On being asked whether the inability of Queensberry to organize as many fights as promised was the only reason for his call, Vijender told The Pioneer, "There were other reasons as well. I was in UK for one year and they fulfilled their commitments for that period but there was a clause in my agreement which said that if I am not happy with their services, I can terminate the contract. So when the time came to re-negotiate, we had discussions but couldn't come to an understanding, so there was a mutual decision to end the contract."

On the question of what were the specific reasons for his decision, the ace pugilist refrained from going into details. "What I have stated in the press statement is all that I am willing to say right now," he added.

Vijender's next fight is scheduled for July. In regard to the opponent he will face, the Haryanvi lad had only this much to say: "That will be announced soon and we will have a press conference to give all the information."

The champion boxer also confirmed that he will continue to remain with his current coach lee Beard.  Singh also revealed that his main goal is to get back into the ring and have regular fights. "My goal is to have a lot more fights at regular intervals. Whether it is in India or abroad, I want to get back to the ring quickly. That is important," he said.

Neerav Tomar, promoter IOS Boxing Promotions, commenting on Vijender's decision said, "Vijender and I are planning a series of fights starting from July in Mumbai. This will further enhance and fuel the growth of professional boxing in India".
