On the back of consecutive home victories, Delhi Daredevils will be eager to produce another spectacle for their home fans when they take on table-toppers Mumbai Indians here on Saturday.
After managing just two wins in their first eight league matches, Daredevils found a new rhythm to their game, winning last two games by chasing massive totals.
Just days after chasing 186 against defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad, Delhi took their game to an another level by reaching a huge 209 target in only 17.3 overs with the loss of just three wickets against Gujarat lions.
Most of the credit should go to the incredible 143-run stand between Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson.
Pant was particularly impressive in his 43-ball 97-run knock, which included nine sixes. He has shown his potential for a while this season, but has failed to convert them into big scores.
But, on Thursday night, he made the most of his positive start to rip apart lions' bowlers. No wonder he is being labeled as the next best thing in Indian cricket.
Samson was equally impressive in his 31-ball 61 runs. He already has a century to his name in this edition of IPl and has certainly stepped up his level to make up for the absence of big-hitters in their side.
However, it is time for the current skipper Karun Nair to lift his game and contribute more in batting. He has had good starts, but has not been able to turn them into big scores. He will be keen to produce a good knock.
The bowling has been Delhi's biggest strength in this IPl. However, the bowlers have struggled to limit the runs in the last two matches.
So the team will be looking for improvement in that department when they face the formidable Mumbai.
It is still unclear when Zaheer Khan will return to the side. After pulling his hamstring against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 28, the pacer is yet to play a match and in his absence Karun has been leading the side.
It will be interesting to see if Delhi will stick with the same formula of chasing targets if they win the toss again on Saturday.
On the other hand, Mumbai have certainly been the team to beat. Having won eight of their 10 matches, Rohit Sharma-led side looked to have the perfect balance in batting and bowling. With two fifties in last three matches, Rohit is peaking at the right time for his team.
Besides, they have explosive hitters in Jos Buttler and Kieron Pollard consistently contributing runs for the team.
In bowling, Mitchell McClenaghan with 15 wickets and Jasprit Bumrah with 12 so far this edition, remain their two biggest threats.
