Solo (Indonesia), Jul 26 (PTI) Rising Indian shuttlers Tanvi Sharma and Vennala Kalagotla ended their campaign with bronze medals at the Badminton Asia Junior Individual Championships on Saturday, marking a historic first for India with two women’s singles players finishing on the podium in the same edition.
Vennala put up a spirited fight against China’s Liu Si Ya but lost 15-21, 18-21 in a 37-minute battle. Facing three match points at 15-20 in the second game, she saved all of them, but a late unforced error allowed Liu to seal the contest in straight games.
On the adjacent court, second seed Tanvi Sharma lost 13-21, 14-21 to China’s eighth seed Yin Yi Qing in 35 minutes. After conceding the first game, Tanvi started strong in the second with a 6-1 lead but Yin rallied back to level the scores at 8-8 before pulling away to secure victory.
Tanvi’s performance continues her strong run this season, following her runner-up finish at the US Open Super 300 last month.
