With gymnastics being in a flux for a few years because of two bickering factions in the Gymnastic Federation of India, SAI Director General Injeti Srinivas says a stronger and unified federation is must for the welfare of the gymnasts. The affairs of the federation are far from stable and even training camps for gymnasts are now being held under the aegis of Sports Authority of India.
“We have been holding the camps for two years and providing the training and exposure for the gymnasts,” Srinivas tells you. “If there had been a stronger federation in place, many would have been helped. A stronger federation, along with stronger associates, is the need of the hour,” he explains. An unstable scenario, he adds, only upset athletes. “The mindset of the athletes will be difficult to manage in the absence of a sound federation. They wouldn’t know which federation to participate for and this would create an uncertainty in them,” he explains.
