Indian boxers will suffer if BI wrangling doesn’t end: AIBA

nEW DElHI:  livid with the administrative wrangling in Boxing India (BI), the world body AIBA on Friday warned that the country’s pugilists will “suffer” ahead of this year’s Olympic qualifiers if the warring factions do not resolve their differences and get the federation registered. Speaking from lausanne, the International Boxing Association Communication Director William louis-Marie said the world body is well aware of the revolt that led to the ouster of BI President Sandeep Jajodia and Secretary General Jay Kowli in a Special General Meeting earlier this month. “We are not pleased at all with whatever is happening in India. We do not know who to talk to as Boxing India has not even been registered as yet. We gave affiliation to it in November last year and it is disappointing that it is still not a registered body,” louis-Marie said in a telephonic interview. “How can we work with such an organisationIJ It is difficult for us to reach out to anyone at this moment. We are dealing with a very grey area here,” he added.  Sandeep Jajodia was ousted after an overwhelming vote against him in the No Confidence Motion was brought in at a Special General Meeting, a move which was termed “illegal” by the incumbent. He lost the motion 2-55 after 57 of the 64 general body members voted against him.

Bianchi’s condition remains ‘stagnant’ says father

monaco:  A year after seeing him enjoy the happiest weekend of his Formula One career, Philippe Bianchi on Friday revealed that his son Jules’ neurological condition was “stagnant” and his family were prepared to face his death. The 25-year-old French racing driver finished ninth in last year’s Monaco Grand Prix, earning the Marussia team their first and, to date, only points-scoring finish in the sport, but suffered life-threatening head injuries when he crashed during last October’s Japanese Grand Prix.

“The situation is stagnant,” Bianchi senior told Canal+. “Jules’ neurological progress is not what we would like it to be. When we get up every morning we think of Jules’ life.. We think also of his death. We have to think about death because we are in a situation where we know a lot of things can happen. “I think we all stopped living that day, 5th of October. It’s something you can never expect. It’s not what Jules wants, being in a hospital bed. It’s not his life. It’s not what we want either, but we have to keep hope.”

new delhi:  long jumper Ankit Sharma has been included in the Indian team for next month’s Asian Athletics Championships in China after he “apologised” to the national federation for not informing it before shifting his base from NIS Patiala to SAI Center. Meanwhile, promising sprinter Dutee Chand can still make it to the Indian team if she does well in the women’s 4x100m relay trials on May 27 though she failed to make the cut in individual events. Eight weightlifting coaches handed two-year suspension

new delhi:  The Indian Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has decided to impose a two-year ban on the coaches of all those weightlifters who tested positive for banned substances across different championships in the last few months. The Federation has also imposed a year-long ban on four States — Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Manipur — for returning highest number of dope cases off late. Ministry wants participation of para-athletes under tri-colour

new delhi:  The ban on PCI notwithstanding, Sports Ministry has requested the International Paralympic Committee to allow Indian athletes to participate in world competitions under the country’s national flag. Soon after the IPC suspended the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI) on April 17 due to internal bickering, the Sports Ministry followed suit and de-recognised the PCI for shabby treatment of para-athletes during the National Para-Athletics Championships in Ghaziabad in March. However, in a big boost to the para-athletes, the International Paralympic Committee on Tuesday gave them permission to compete at competitions under the IPC flag inspite of the ban slapped on the national body.
