India record 2nd top 10 finish in WC
Melbourne: India recorded their second top-10 finish in the ISPS Handa Melbourne World Cup of Golf after Anirban Lahiri and Gaganjeet Bhullar produced a second successive two-under 70 in the final round here on Sunday. Lahiri and Bhullar finished on 12-under par 276 to share the 10th spot after Sunday's foursomes round, while Belgium won the tournament for the first time with a total of 23-under 265. Belgium's Thomas Pieters and Thomas Detry added a four-under par 68 in the final round to win by three shots at the Metropolitan Golf Club here. Hosts Australia produced a storming finish of seven-under par 65 to climb to tied second place alongside Mexico (66) at 20-under par.
Hamilton wins crash-hit final race
Abu Dhabi: New five-time champion Lewis Hamilton claimed his 11th win of the season on Sunday when he drove his Mercedes to a well-judged triumph in an incident-filled season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The 33-year-old Briton, who started from his 83rd pole position, came home 2.5 seconds ahead of his main title rival four-time champion German Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari. The win came after a race that began with an horrific opening lap crash from which Nico Hulkenberg escaped unhurt, his blazing Renault car having barrel-rolled into the barriers. Dutchman Max Verstappen finished third ahead of his Red Bull team-mate Daniel Ricciardo, in his 100th race for Red Bull and 150th overall before moving to Renault. Retirement-bound two-time champion Fernando Alonso finished 11th for McLaren in his 311th and farewell appearance.
Henry gets first Monaco win
Caen: Radamel Falcao secured Thierry Henry his first win as Monaco boss with a free-kick that would have made his manager proud. The Colombian striker struck with a dipping set-piece nine minutes after the break, and Henry could be seen smiling on the touchline as his players celebrated Falcao's winner wildly. "I'm happy for the team, all the fans, we needed that, even if it was not a match for the purists," said Monaco coach Henry afterwards. Falcao's fifth league goal of the campaign secured Monaco's first win in any competition since the opening day of the league season, a miserable run of form that has left them second-bottom in Ligue 1 despite Saturday's win. The victory came seven games into Henry's reign at Monaco, where a host of injuries has further complicated an already difficult start to his tenure.
Churchill thrash Mohun Bagan 3-0
Kolkata: The visiting Churchill Brothers embarrassed Mohun Bagan 3-0 after former Trinidad and Tobago international Willis Plaza made a stunning return to the city, heading in a brace in the I-League on Sunday. Forced to leave the Maidan after parting ways with East Bengal earlier this year, Plaza looked in ominous form and struck in a space of four minutes (51st and 55th) to become the leading scorer with five goals to his name. He had scored a hat-trick in their 4-2 win over Shillong Lajong in the previous match. Captain Dawda Ceesay drew the first blood in the 21st minute with an easy tap-in long before the Goans jumped to second spot with nine points from five matches. Mohun Bagan (8) slipped to fourth in the table. Churchill Brothers next face Gokulam Kerala.
