Khaleel ahmed warned for Samuels send-off

Dubai: Young Indian pacer Khaleel Ahmed on Tuesday was warned and handed a demerit point for giving an "aggressive" send-off to West Indies batsman Marlon Samuels during the fourth ODI in Mumbai. Ahmed was found guilty of a Level 1 breach in the ICC Code of Conduct. "The incident happened in the 14th over, when the left-armer, after having Marlon Samuels caught in the slips by Rohit Sharma, advanced aggressively towards the departing batter, which, in the view of the on-field umpires, could have provoked a reaction from the Windies player," said the ICC in a release. Ahmed violated Article 2.5 of the Code, which relates to "using language, actions or gestures which disparage or which could provoke an aggressive reaction from a batter upon his/her dismissal during an international match". After the match, the 20-year-old admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by match referee Chris Broad, making a formal hearing redundant.

Ghosal advances to the 3rd round at Qatar Classic

Doha: Taking revenge for his Asian Games defeat against Leo Au, Indian squash star Saurav Ghosal defeated his Hong Kong opponent in straight games to move to the third round of the Qatar Classic, a PSA World tour platinum event, here on Tuesday. Ghosal, who had a bye in the first round, defeated Leo Au 11-2, 11-3, 11-5 and will face second seed Ali Farag of Egypt in the third round. In August, at the Asian Games in Jakarta, the Hong Kong player had beaten the Indian in the semi-final. Interestingly Ghosal also has a score to settle with the Farag next in what promises to be a keen contest. Four years ago, in what was their first and only meeting earlier, the Egyptian, who had come in as a qualifier had spoilt the top seed Indian's party right in the first round of the CCI international in Mumbai.

NEUFC beat Delhi Dynamos in isl, move to top spot

New Delhi: A dominant NorthEast United FC scored two late goals to beat Delhi Dynamos 2-0 in their Indian Super League football match here on Tuesday. The home side failed to create enough chances to score and were outplayed by the visitors who, however, could not find a breakthrough until the 82nd minute at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here. A moment of individual brilliance from Federico Gallego (82nd minute) and a clinical strike by Bartholomew Ogbeche (90th) helped NorthEast United climb to the top of the table with 11 points, although they have played a match more than FC Goa (10 points). This was NorthEast's third victory on the road and the best start they have had in the ISL. On Wednesday hosts ATK will now look to build on their winning momentum when they face last year's runners-up Bengaluru FC. Having suffered back-to-back defeats at home to start their campaign, the new-look ATK have managed to bounce back with two wins and draw.

Advani in final of Asian Snooker Tour event

Jinan: India's top cueist Pankaj Advani Tuesday stormed into the final of the Asian Snooker Tour's second leg event here after impressive wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals of the championship. Advani bettered his own performance by moving into the title round after settling for Bronze last month in the first leg in Doha. The quarterfinal was poised to be a cracker as it was a clash of the finalists of last year's IBSF World Snooker Championship. Amir Sarkhosh of Iran, however, ended up on the wrong side of the 5-1 scoreline. It was the semifinal that brought out Advani's best against the first leg winner Mohammed Bilal of Pakistan. Advani started off in style with a 93 break but the Pakistani pulled one back to make it 1-1. From there, the multiple world champion Indian piled on many breaks to book a berth in the final. In the gold medal match on Wednesday, Advani faces an experienced Chinese campaigner Ju Reti.
