new delhi: Injured senior speedster Ishant Sharma and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin will undergo a fitness test on Saturday before the selectors take a final call on their availability for the upcoming two-Test series against the West Indies starting October 4. "Ashwin is already doing his rehabilitation at the NCA for groin injury. Even Ishant is expected to join him there. As of now, there is a fitness test scheduled on Saturday, September 29. Aditi pulls out of women's Indian Open
new delhi: Former champion Aditi Ashok Wednesday pulled out of the $ 500,000 Hero women's Indian Open golf tournament scheduled to be held from October 18 to 21 at the DLF Golf and Country Club in Gurugram. The fast-rising 20-year-old from Bengaluru has decided to play at the Buick LPGA, a co-sanctioned event by the China Golf Association, the LPGA and the CLPGA, which will be held on the same dates in Shanghai, China. "It is with disappointment that I have decided to not play the Hero Women's Indian Open this year," Aditi wrote on her official twitter page. "This would have been my 8th Indian Open in a row but right now playing the BUICKK LPGA during the same week is important to me. As a past champion, it wasn't easy to make this decision but I look forward to playing many more Indian Opens in the coming years."
Indian men crush Austria in chess olympiad
batumi: World rapid champion Viswanathan Anand put it past Markus Ragger in a brilliant positional game as the Indian men's team cruised to a 3.5-0.5 victory over Austria in the second round of the 43rd Chess Olympiad here. Back to the Olympiad after a gap of 12 years, Anand was precise in calculation and brilliant in judgement giving away nothing to Ragger who was all at sea defending a difficult position out of the opening on Tuesday evening. P Harikrishna, on the second board, benefitted from a late blunder by Valentin Dragnev after Vidit Gujrathi ensured an Indian lead with a fluent victory over Andreas Diermair. On the fourth board, B Adhiban was held to a draw by Peter Schreiner. With their second 3.5-0.5 victory, the Indian men remain in joint lead on four points with 40 other teams and will next take on Canada.
Atletico cruise to victory over Huesca
madrid: Atletico Madrid are finally finding their groove in La Liga and just in time for a city derby against Real Madrid after they strolled to a 3-0 win over newly-promoted Huesca on Tuesday. One victory from their opening four league games left Atletico seven points adrift of Barcelona a fortnight ago but three on the spin have now steered Diego Simeone's side back on track. This was as routine a three points as they come at the Wanda Metropolitano, where Antoine Griezmann scored early in the first half before going off early in the second, along with partner Diego Costa. Thomas Partey and Koke added numbers two and three before the interval as Atleti climb to third. Huesca drop to 18th.
Bayern leak late goal to lose 100 % record
berlin: Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich dropped points for the first time this season as Felix Goetze scored a late equaliser for Augsburg at his old club in Tuesday's 1-1 draw. Bayern were cruising to a home win, which would have left them four points clear, before Goetze nodded home the equaliser four minutes from time. Despite the draw, Bayern stay two points clear of second-placed Werder Bremen. With star striker Robert Lewandowski on the bench, evergreen Arjen Robben gave Bayern the lead three minutes after the break at the Allianz Arena. When Bayern winger Serge Gnabry chested down the ball, Robben, 34, snapped up his pass and rounded the defence to smash home a goal off his left. With time almost up, second-half sub Felix Goetze, younger brother of fallen Germany star Mario, popped up with a shock equaliser having only left Bayern in July after four years in Munich. Elsewhere, Schalke, last season's runners up, remain bottom of the league after suffering their fifth straight defeat, crashing 1-0 at Freiburg.
