Despite being handed a tricky start to the fourth season of the Indian Super league, Delhi Dynamos' new recruit Seityansen Singh does not want to settle for anything less than a victory in the opening two away fixtures.
"We have worked hard since the beginning of the pre-season, and we are here with the mindset to win the match. It's vital for us to take all three points," said the former NorthEast United footballer.
Dynamos have been given two tricky opening ties as they play both the matches away — second match against NorthEast in Guwahati. Seityasen feels that such schedule won't affect them as they knew it from first and it won't change their approach to go all out to win.
"We have been training for past two months, that included friendly matches in Spain and Qatar and we kept intensity level higher in our practice sessions in Delhi too. So it doesn't matter if our first two matches are away because we knew the fixture from beginning and we prepared accordingly. Home or away, we want to win all our matches," said the 25-year-old player ahead of their clash with hosts Pune City FC at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex on Wednesday.
Known for his pace on the wings, Seityasen explained how playing under coach Miguel Angel Portugal has helped him a lot, since the gaffer prefers to attack from the flanks.
"Coach allows me a lot of freedom. Our playing style suits attacking from the wings, as he believes in building attack from there, so I get to express myself a lot. I feel it's our main strength going into the first match," said the winger.
Seityasen would be sharing flank duty with Netherland's Jeroen lumu.
"lumu is the best player in our team, he is a complete footballer. He got skills, speed and strength. He is also a clinical finisher. We are lucky to have somebody like him in our team, who brings a lot of quality to our squad. He cooperates with us well and he is fun to play with," said the Manipuri footballer.
Talking about his personal goals in the ISl this season, Seityasen hopes to better his performance from last season and find a spot in national team.
"I am personally aiming to exceed the performance I gave last season. I would like to score more goals this time, I want to get more game time and want to fight for the title. Indian team have qualified for the Asia Cup, that increases my pedigree further to perform better and find myself a spot in the national team," concluded the player who last wore the blue jersey for India in 2016.
