Both Scotland and Afghanistan will have the chance to get their first win and point on the board when the two minnows of cricket face each at University Oval ground in Dunedin on Thursday.
Despite running a scare to New Zealand in it’s first game, Scotland weren’t as comprehensive and cohesive when they were up against neighbours England on Monday. The Scots were dominated by an England side which hasn’t had a good tournament so far going down to both hosts by a considerable margin.
Scotland’s close run-in with New Zealand raised concerns over ICC’s decision of reducing the tournament from current 14-teams to 10-teams for the next edition in 2019 in England.
On the other hand, World Cup debutants Afghanistan went close against Bangladesh and Sri lanka but came out empty handed. Against Bangladesh, Afghanistan’s lack of experience resulted in their downfall while Mahela Jayawardene’s century doused their hopes versus lanka.
At Dunedin, both will go in with the aim of a win to at least go back home with their heads held high.
